Kirgizstan is a beautiful country.
But it has a a major problem based on the heritage of the Russians.
During the cold war Russia deposed millions of tons of uranium-mud in the mountains all over the country which are not secured properly.
Seismic activity and rainwater wash the materials into rivers and lakes and make a few areas in Kyrgyzstan the most toxic places on earth. Mailu Suu, a city in the mountains which we will luckily pass in the neighboring valley, is the most toxic city on earth. Drinking water from rivers is not a good idea arround here.
But also it’s not necessary. There are enough little villages where we can buy water. Also passing this here is said not to be dangerous. So no worries, we will be able to pass this areas safely.
